Lakeville GS Day Camp provides a unique outdoor experience for campers. Girls are introduced to basic outdoor skills in grades 1-3 and continue to develop these skills each year they attend camp. We also provide a Leadership Development program for our older Girl Scouts. Girls entering grades 8-12 who have completed the required training lead our units and are responsible for all aspects of programming and mentoring campers. Each year they work at camp they take on additional leadership for the unit.
Action Packed Days
It is a 3-day day camp, held at Camp Phillippo in Northfield, MN. The camp program offers the girls the opportunity to ride the bus to and from Lakeville each day while singing Girl Scout songs and bonding with each other. The programming at camp offers girls the opportunity to discover and participate in many fun and oftentimes-new activities, such as hiking, swimming, archery, canoeing, outdoor survival, cooking, and arts and crafts - in addition to many more activities! Girls entering 5th and 6th grades are also offered the opportunity to participate in an overnight camping experience.
Lasting Friendships
All of the girls are excited to meet new Girl Scouts in their community, but not necessarily at their school. Middle school girls have commented that the relationships they have built at camp have made the transition to middle school easier - as they have many more "familiar faces" to see each day.
Program Aides
The Lakeville Girl Scout Service Unit has found value over the years in providing this unique camping experience to all girls. Many older girls remain in Girl Scouting specifically to participate as Program Aides at camp and gain leadership experience - and several have returned from college to volunteer as adults!
